QUESTIONS REMAIN ON PENNSYLVANIA PV CLUSTER

    The cluster of polycythemia vera that has been identified in the area surrounding a Superfund site in Pennsylvania has produced some questions on whether PV may be under-diagnosed. One investigator, Dr. Roda, has suggested that the prevalence of PV has been steady, but not diagnosed as widely as it is now that there is increased awareness in the area. In 2009 the CDC allocated $2 million for the study of the PV outbreak in the tri-county area of Luzerne, Schuylkill and Carbon counties.
